Conclusion

XSL is an extremely powerful set of specifications. The Internet community has high hopes that XSL will enable XML to replace HTML/CSS as the main document format for the web. Unfortunately, the power and flexibility of these two languages may ultimately be their main weaknesses. If these languages are too complex for people to learn, implement, and develop auto-generation tools, then web designers will continue to use existing HTML/CSS tools. One method that XSL might use for attracting web designers is to add extra design features that are unsupported on HTML, thereby providing incentive for these designers to learn a new set of tools and migrate to new technology. Until these issues are addressed, XSL may continue to be a niche language and not achieve its full potential to revolutionize the web.
